Camp'n W/Ted & JudyOctober 18 Fall 2006 in TexasFall vacation was going to be a trip back to South Dakota but the cold fronts were moving in and the temps were going to be too cold for us. So the backup plan was Possum Kingdom Texas. On the way down we stayed at Foss Lake in the western part of Oklahoma. We were very pleased with the park and people. We stayed there two nights to let the cold front pass that was chasing us. When we arrived at PK state park the weather was great. Drove around the lake one day to find the dam and some other campgrounds but the state park will be the best one for us. Fishing not great but the weather made up for that. This is the 3rd time we have been to this park and I'm sure we will be back again. September 26 Camping at Lake Whitney TexasAnother fine Texas camping trip, a long drive but well worth the time to get here. Saw the temperature reach
105 one day and the others weren't too far from that with dew points very high, did not have too much time to
sweat as we sat in the lake most of the time building the wet bar and snorkling around looking at the small fish that came up to see what we were building. Water temperature was 90 so getting used to the water was no problem. Did go for a drive one day and the pictures show what was around the lake.
A little concern was Rita as the path was not known for sure but we had time to move if needed, we did head
for home a day early just to split the 18 hour drive up a little more Glad we did as when we got to a town we could only put in 25 gal of fuel, it was all anyone could get at a time. Sill headed north, passing a lot of picnic areas along the road full of people fleeing the storm. After a stop in Jacksburo we could fill the camper up with fuel.
That took us to our next overnight stay at Lake Arrowhead, our 1st and last stay there. August 22 August vacation at Lewis & Clark lakeCamping at the lake on the South Dakota side was interesting at the least. When we arrived we went to check out our camping pad that we had reserved three months prior, when we sat up the campy it was nowhere close
to being level. After we leveled the campy we decided it was not safe to have the front end up so high. We
took the jeep and went to the office and told them of our problem, they were more than happy to help us out.
We went looking for a different camp pad, we did, we moved and level at last. Not the kind of camp ground we
really wanted, we like to be close to the water so we can throw a line in the water to try and catch a fish but
there, at the time of the year, the water was high enough that the lake shore is lined with large rock to keep the shore from washing so a hard time to get close to the water. When we did find a spot that we could fish only
caught one drum on a gold spinner, nothing on worms.
We left there on Friday and headed back home with a stop at Big Mac, stayed there for two days, water was warm but only three carp to catch, soft sand, warm weather and it was relaxing July 07 June vacation at West Bend SD on Lake SharpeSpent a week in June and had a great time, came home with about 30 to 35 pounds of cleaned cat fish, a few walleye and some small mouth bass for the kittys. Water was warm as I did not have to get used to it, just walk in and enjoy. Always have a great time in the South Dakota parks system, and a good place to set and watch the fishing pole while sipping on a cold one. If you are wondering about the marked log, Judy made marks on it to measure the fish, well one night the wind came up and washed our log away. Went for a walk to the north up the beach and found our log stuck in between two other trees that had ben washed there a long time. A few days later there was another wind from the north east, still can't belive this but the waves had washed the marked log back in front of our camp site, guess it was a sign that we were going to catch more fish. |
